Researchers have identified the amino acid sequences that allow prions to aggregate and replicate - and thereby pass through generations of cells - and prove this by designing an artificial yeast prion that does not exist in nature.
About Jeff Iverson
Available for commissions. Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr: j5rson -- My work is a synthesis of the intricate, chaotic, and unpredictable. I work primarily in digital media, focusing on colorful abstracts, complex fractal manipulations, and digital photography, with brief incursions into traditional media such as acrylic on various supports. I work with shapes, colors and textures in an attempt to reach something greater than the sum of those parts. Jeff, this is very interesting!!! I love the spikes ! They remind me of a flower it's considered a weed in the NE gosh I can not remember the name perhaps thistle ? The spikes also look like a blowfish spike. The detail shadows of the spike are excellent !!! It's a bit scary looking. If not in nature where does this prison exist? I would enjoy more about its history! In any event it's really detailed and I enjoy it!! Smiles, Christine
Jeff Iverson replied:
Hi Christine, while artificial prions do indeed exist, I have no idea what they look like. This is a fractal manipulation, basically I use a computer program to generate a starting image, then manipulate the colors and texture until I'm satisfied. This made me think of pictures of viruses I had seen in the past, so used something distantly related for the title. Thank you so much for the kind words! Cheers, Jeff
